Whether you’re a small business or an expansive enterprise, your IT systems, software, and services significantly impact your day-to-day operations. Today, we offer a checklist of items you can complete by the end of the year to ensure you start 2025 off with the best IT infrastructure possible.
- Update your operating system. No matter what system you have, make sure it’s up to date with the latest patches and security fixes.
- Update your antivirus software. While most antivirus programs will update automatically, it takes only seconds to confirm that your programs are enabled, up-to-date, and functioning correctly.
- Make a list; check it twice. Santa is not the only one that deals with lists in the last quarter of the year. Work with your IT staff to create a comprehensive list of all installed software and apps throughout your organization.
- Check your hardware. Workstations, network devices, servers, and other physical IT components should be checked for signs of wear, tear, and damage.
- Monitor the environment. Your IT equipment needs a controlled and consistent environment. Remember, a temperature range of around 64° to 77° with humidity levels between 40% and 60% is ideal for most electronics. Talk with your ITC advisor for more specifics. Your equipment also needs proper airflow.
- Inspect surge detectors. Confirm all of your devices are connected to a surge protector, which will safeguard against electrical surges.
- Clean. While you might think of cleaning as more of a spring chore, there is never a wrong time to take dust control measures to prevent build-up, which can wreak havoc on your equipment cooling systems and cause catastrophic hardware failures.
- Stay on top of your cybersecurity. Your digital doorway is your most vulnerable. Conduct regular assessments to identify potential weaknesses in your systems and networks. You may also work with your ITC tech for penetration testing, security audits, and more.
